Bollinger County
Missouri
Bollinger County, Missouri became an independent county on March 1st, 1851. Commissioners assigned Dallas to become the new county seat which citizens later changed to Marble Hill in 1865. The first courthouse building was built in 1852 but this building was not built for the use of the courthouse. Commissioners decided to use this building which was already standing instead of spending the money to build a new courthouse. The county was only able to use this building for a short time before it was destroyed by fire on March 2nd, 1866, which was a 30-foot square, brick, two-story building. July 1867 a second courthouse was completed for $3,000, although later in 1884, it was deemed unsafe and was later destroyed by fire. In 1885 a St. Louis contractor built our current standing courthouse for $9,000 and was enlarged in 1912 for $7,000. Extensive repairs in the 1960's and 1970's were made that continued the current use of the courthouse. In 2005, Bollinger County added the elevator addition to add additional space and to add a elevator for easy access to the second floor.
